SpaceX's Road to Mars
Gwynne Shotwell, the President and COO of SpaceX, will deliver the Division of Engineering and Applied Science's 2017 Wouk Lecture. She will give an overview of the SpaceX technology development and business plans that lead to a human settlement on Mars. The event will include an interactive discussion on who wants to go and the challenges.
The Victor Wouk Lectureship was established by the Wouk family in 2004 to bring experts on the latest advances in science and technology to campus. The lecture is named in honor of Caltech electrical engineering alumnus Victor Wouk (MS '40, PhD '42) who devoted himself largely to developing hybrid motor vehicles and using semiconductors in electric vehicles. A space-travel buff since childhood, he also worked with the team that developed fuel gauges for the "dune buggies" that roamed the surface of the moon during the Apollo program.
