This November, experience the debut release of Consona, a transformative album from OcTech, Caltech's choral octet. The album's title, drawn from the Latin "consonare"—meaning "to harmonize" or "to sound together"—captures the heart of OcTech's vision: a celebration of unity, friendship, and beauty. Consona takes listeners on a journey through four centuries of Western music, from the sacred elegance of William Byrd and Raffaella Aleotti to modern masterpieces by greats including Arvo Pärt and Caroline Shaw. The album even features two standout tracks crafted by OcTech's own singers: Noah Epstein's breathtaking arrangement of Danny Boy and Kate Radford's hauntingly evocative setting of the Sandia Labs nuclear waste message.

Founded in 2021 by biochemist and soprano Kate Radford, OcTech brings together eight Caltech scientists united by a passion for complex and stunning choral music. The group has built a reputation for performing challenging eight-part repertoire that demands technical precision and pushes the boundaries of what a small, amateur ensemble can achieve. With performances at Caltech, Pasadena's Parson's Nose Theater, and in benefit concerts raising thousands for global causes, OcTech has captivated audiences and used their artistry for good. Now, with Consona, they invite listeners everywhere to share in this rich tapestry of sound, history, and connection.
