Join the Caltech Center for Diversity in celebrating Asian Pacific American Heritage Month STEMinar event featuring Caltech Alumnus '67 Dr. Bob Suzuki! Dr. Suzuki was born in Portland, Oregon to Japanese immigrant parents. During World War II, he was imprisoned with his family in an internment camp in Minidoka, Idaho, where he received his first 3 years of schooling. He attended UC Berkeley, where he received his B.S. degree in 1960 and his M.S. degree in 1962 in Mechanical Engineering. From 1961 to 1963, he worked as a research engineer for the Boeing Company in Seattle, Washington. In 1963, he returned to graduate school at Caltech and graduated in 1967. He taught for 4-1/2 years in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at the University of Southern California, before moving on to joining the faculty and later, administration, at UMass Amherst. He returned to southern CA in 1981 and served in various leadership positions at Cal State LA, Northridge, and finally, ended his career as the President of Cal Poly Pomona for 12 years.
