SpaceX and the Aerodynamic and Aerothermal Challenges of Designing Reusable Rockets and Spacecraft
Andrew Tchieu, Senior Aerodynamics Engineer, Space Exploration Technologies, SpaceX,

SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced, reusable, rockets and spacecraft. The company was founded in 2002 to revolutionize space technology, with the ultimate goal of enabling people to live on other planets. This talk will provide an overview, update, and outlook on SpaceX and its current and future projects while providing context related to aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic lessons learned and challenges of building reusable rockets and spacecraft. Andrew Tchieu is currently a Senior Aerodynamics Engineer at Space Exploration Technologies who focuses on leading the aerodynamics team on design, testing, and analysis of the Dragon spacecraft. He received his B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from UC San Diego and completed his masters and PhD in Aeronautics at GALCIT. He was a postdoctoral scholar at the USC and ETH Zurich before working with the SpaceX team.
