PASADENA, Calif.--The California Institute of Technology Industrial Relations Center is initiating the Critical Business Discussion Series, free online webinars that address global enterprise business issues in a highly condensed and convenient format. Beginning on October 10, the 30- to 60-minute webinars will introduce and discuss practical frameworks and tools for making a dramatic difference in a company's business performance in a global context. New webinar topics will be offered regularly. Participants can attend via internet in their office, using their phone and computer.
"Our new webinar series will provide you, wherever you are, with fast access to relevant experience that executives managing in today's high-tech companies can immediately apply to current problems," says Nick Nichols, director of the Caltech Industrial Relations Center. "We developed the Critical Business Discussion Series to provide multiple formats for learning and offering proven answers to tough business problems to further enhance our executive education outreach."
The first webinar will be presented by Alan G. Dunn, instructor of the Caltech IRC courses "Manufacturing Cost Strategies" and "Driving Business Performance: Implementing New Metrics and Incentives." The topic is "Managing Global Supply Chain Risks: How to Evaluate and Quantify Specific Business Risks Caused by Critical Suppliers." This interactive presentation will provide actionable steps on how to manage risks in your supply chain.
"Managing Global Supply Chain Risks" was chosen as the first topic, as supplier assessment is a subject of high concern to today's business leaders.
According to Dunn, "Proactive and thorough due diligence of critical suppliers is a new necessity in the global supply world where distances can be great, supply complexities can be even greater, and consequences of poor supply can be devastating to the bottom line."
Future topics will address a variety of issues including global manufacturing, strategic alliances, global talent management, technology strategy, and intellectual-property management.
Audio files will be available after the presentation for e-mailing to others for continued learning.
Caltech is one of the most highly regarded institutions of research and education in science and engineering in the world. Its Industrial Relations Center (http://www.irc.caltech.edu) provides educational programs to address the business needs of technology-based companies.
