PASADENA -- John Curry, vice president for business and finance at the California Institute of Technology since 1995, has accepted the position of executive vice president at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, effective November 15. The new MIT position was created to oversee a wide range of administrative units and to work on strategic planning.
"While it is very difficult for me to leave Caltech, I am drawn to the new MIT position because it is the chance of a lifetime," said Curry.
Caltech president David Baltimore noted that the Institute will miss Curry's skills, talent, and business acumen. "We are sorry to see John leave, but we recognize that this is a unique opportunity with a rare potential for significant professional growth."
Baltimore also announced that a search for Curry's successor will be under way shortly. Plans for the interim transition are also in place.
Before joining Caltech, Curry served as administrative vice president at UCLA and has had more than 20 years experience in financial administration at various universities. He is married to Kristine Dillon, who has taken a new post at Tufts University.
