PASADENA—The Caltech Alumni Association will confer honorary alumni status on two women at the Association's annual dinner on June 13 at the Athenaeum on the Caltech campus. The new honorary alumni are Doris Everhart, Caltech's First Lady, and Monica Hubbard, conductor of the Caltech Women's Glee Club.
As wife of Caltech's president, Thomas E. Everhart, Doris Everhart has been a goodwill ambassador for the Institute since the couple's arrival in Pasadena in 1987. She has been extremely supportive of all groups on campus—students, faculty, staff, alumni, and Trustees. Especially active in her support of the Caltech glee clubs and orchestra, she has attended most concerts and encouraged others to attend.
Doris has been an active participant at reunion receptions and dinners, Honorary Alumni receptions and dinners, and Gnome events, and has traveled with Dr. Everhart to alumni chapter meetings across the country, always radiating charm and sharing her vast knowledge of Caltech.
Monica Hubbard is the founding conductor of the Caltech Women's Glee Club and has served as director of women's choral activities at Caltech since 1972. In that capacity she has touched the lives of hundreds of young female students at Caltech by contributing to their musical development, as well as by enhancing the cultural environment of the entire Caltech community through choral presentations.
In addition to their regular annual concerts, Monica has organized special concerts for both male and female students and has helped the students raise funding to travel to locations around the country. Performances have been held for several Caltech alumni chapters over the years, as well as a special performance several years ago at a Seminar Day dinner.
The honorees were selected based on their support of the aims and activities of the Alumni Association: contributing to the educational and cultural environment at Caltech, strengthening the ties between the Institute and its alumni, encouraging fellowship among the members of the Association, and promoting contacts between students and alumni as well as supporting student activities aimed at diversifying the education experience available at Caltech.
