"I consider it a professional honor to join an institution with an alumni body as accomplished as the graduates of Caltech. I look forward to working with staff and volunteers to provide high quality programs that meet the needs of Caltech alumni worldwide," says Shaindlin.
Shaindlin comes to Caltech from the University of Michigan, where he served as director of alumni education and then senior director of alumni programs. He was responsible for directing one of the nation's largest alumni travel programs, overseeing the newly-created Alumni Career Center, and administering the Alumni University education program.
"Andy brings with him more than 10 years of professional alumni– related experience. I am confident that he will make a lasting contribution to the Institute, to the Alumni Association and to the Caltech community," said Jerry Nunnally, vice president for institute relations.
Prior to joining the University of Michigan, Shaindlin spent three years with the Princeton Review as an instructor, and then director of the program in Long Island, N.Y. and Monterey.
Shaindlin earned his bachelor's degree in international relations from Brown University, where he first served as assistant director, then associate director and director of alumni education for seven and a half years. His achievements include establishing two internet discussion forums for alumni professionals, as well as publishing a number of articles on the electronic classroom. In addition, his programs have won several Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) awards, including the council's highest honor three times, twice in the last two years. Shaindlin and his wife, Martha, and their daughter, Chloe, will live in the Pasadena area.
